John Goodheart's vessels are exercises in precision. They reflect an exploration of vessel form that is quite unique. Each of the vessels lives within a metal sleeve, a visually porous cage that surrounds the ceramic vessel and creates a second volume around the interior pot. He has always been a strong colorist and this group of work delights in the use of fresh primary color, painted onto metal shelves, to continue his cerebral process of analyses, further dissecting the vessel form. Goodheart (b. 1947 in Reno,) lives and works in Indianapolis. He is the professor of ceramics at the Indianapolis University and his work has been shown in over 200 exhibitions and is included in the collections of the Mint Museum of Art and Design and the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
