study material for students

Students will work on a pencil color drawing whose composition will be their own creation. They will then create a frame for the work, whose shape must replicate the overall design of the drawing's composition.

Students are free to use any abstract shape or artistic element to create the drawing.  Works must show use of emphasis, balance, unity and contrast, and cannot show use of pattern.

Students will learn:

  1. the four fundamental steps to transforming an idea into a work of art:
B/W thumbnails, color thumbnails, sketches, finished work
  2. how to visually apply the principles of design and color theory
  3. shading using a color pencil
  4. manual dexterity
  5. independent thinking and decision making
