Gabriele Munter was one of the founders of modern German Abstract Expressionism. In 1911 she joined with other radical artist to form the group known as Der Blaue Reiter. She stayed in Germany through World War II but was forced to work in secret during the Nazi era, when German Expressionism was outlawed. “
