This student works with the idea of societal conditioning and the importance of mass media. The person, devoid of his or her own essence, is replaced by a uniformed idea of who we are. The newsprint is pages from The New York Times, which he chose to signify how mass media affect our perception of the world. The New York Times is unilaterally seen as one of the most trusted sources of information in our country, and yet it still creates delimited understanding of the world affairs, hence the rectangular shape of the work. |
